Starting in October 2019, Yarrabilba Touch Association has grown from strength to strength in just over a year and recently became a Queensland Touch Affiliate.
Yarrabilba is South East Queensland’s fastest growing suburb, situated between Brisbane and the Gold Coast. Yarrabilba Touch President Cam Perry said the idea to becoming an affiliate was to offer more than just touch football. “We currently have three schools in Yarrabilba with a fourth school currently being built. The affiliation allows us to connect with these local schools and offer more to the community,” he said.
Yarrabilba Touch for the first time is participating at Queensland Touch Football’s 2020 QLD State Cup, the premier senior affiliate competition in Queensland for ages 15-60+ and will bring to the field three teams. “We have an Open Men’s, Open Mixed and 30’s Mixed playing at QLD State Cup. Our Open Men’s and Open Mixed are fairly young sides and have been training extremely hard. Playing in the QLD State Cup will help their development in the game. Our 30’s Mixed team will be our most competitive at QLD State Cup. The team have played together at club level for a while, so combinations are working well. Some players have previously played in the National Touch League and their leadership and knowledge has been great for the team,” Cam Perry said.
In 2021, Yarrabilba Touch will be expanding their 6-team junior competition with plans to enter the Titans Tri Series and Junior State Cup in July. They are also hoping to include a Men’s grade to help boost the Men’s teams for the 2021 QLD State Cup.
The next season for Yarrabilba Touch commences 29th January 2021 for opens and 3rd February 2021 for juniors. Further information can be found on their Facebook page “Yarrabilba Touch”.
